What is Boot Sector Repair and How Can it Be Remedied?
Your computer may continually reboot, sometimes present the Windows logo screen, or else even just have a black screen. There are a number of effects that occur when you have a damaged boot sector file such as the Master Boot Record.
Your hard drive is divided into several sectors and one of these is the boot sector. It is the most necessary, and is obviously accessed primarily when the computer first boots up. All disks and hard drives are partitioned into small sectors. The primary sector is called the boot sector and includes the Master Boot Record (MBR). The MBR has information concerning the place of partitions on the drive and reading of the bootable operating system division. When those files have been found, the BIOS then looks for the primary sector on that disk or drive and gives the required Master Boot Record details to the memory.
There are factors that can damage the Master Boot Record in the Boot Sector. Having problems when loading the Operating System can damage the master boot record. Stopping half way through installation is the next most usual cause. Another is altering the Windows Registry entries. Your computer can also get a virus that attacks the MBR.
Boot sector repair is a primary problem. This is the process by which to repair the MBR of the boot sector drive manually. Place your original Windows XP CD into the CD drive of your computer. Then restart your computer and optimistically, it will come up and say press any key to boot from the CD. So then, you must press any key on your keyboard to begin from the CD. If this does not come up, you have to enter your BIOS and alter the boot order or arrangement. See the settings manual to learn how to get into your BIOS and alter settings.
A blue screen will appear to you, and you are on your way. You may be required to press F8 to agree to the Windows setup arrangement. After that, the setup options will be seen. Do not key in ENTER, for it will begin installing Windows all over again, and you will lose all of your files on your hard drive. Now, press the letter R on your keyboard to start the Recovery Console.
When the Recovery Console begins, you will have to enter the number key that relates to the installation you wish to repair. For example if you have only one Windows loaded on your computer, then you would key in the number one key. If you have two operating systems on your computer and you want to repair the second one, then key in 2. Type your administrator password for Windows loading. You must enter an administration password at this stage and if you do not, you cannot continue the process. At the Recovery Console prompt, type ‘fixmbr’. You will be asked to affirm that you want to operate this by pressing the Y key, which means yes. Now your boot sector repair is done. Recheck it again for assurance.
